Expressing acceptance through art!

I feel acceptance is a great value. When I accept the way people, cultures and things are around me, I experience FREEDOM within. Freedom from the burden of wasteful thinking, speaking and doing.

We have this big cardboard on which the signature street vendor cart in our campus is drawn. We gathered students and let them write what they can do to protect the Dignity of vendors in this. Thereafter, we took a picture of them holding a sign saying, 'I promote the Dignity of UP VENDORS' which is the sign of promise that they will always do whatever they wrote in the cardboard to promote the Dignity of UP(our university, University of the Philippines) vendors.
Hi! I belong to an academically-made group in our class. It consists of Abigail Gonzales, Nicole Aliasas, Jovanne Lagman and I. Our professor, Prof. Rina Angela Corpus, gave us the chance to do what we can, even in our own little ways, to protect the Dignity of something or someone that is important to us, or we think needs to be noticed.
Thus, we have decided to protect the Dignity of street vendors in our campus. We thought, we always see projects/movements that uplift the Dignity of chldren and women, movement to promote peace and etc. but we haven't actually seen one that is dedicated to street vendors that survives everyday lives through their simple businesses. Theyare everywhere but it seems like very little attention are given to them where in fact, they have an important role in our campus. Our campus is big and they are the ones who provide us food, drinks, and shade in times that people needs them. So, we hope through this, we can uplift the Dignity of vendors and gain more respect for them.

The creative collage done by the group of youths during Om Cafe, at PJ, Malaysia, on 13 March 2011. The theme of om cafe was Purity.
This reflects how many see, and feel what purity is all about.
- posted by Uma (Young Adult, Malaysia)
Through reflective conversation on purity the participants came to understand and feel what purity means to them in relationships and interaction. Just a minute of silence was used to clear out the mind of thoughts and open the heart for creative expression.

The reflection on purity by each participant was so genuine.

A rose is loved because of its beauty and fragrance. Love spreads far and wide and touches the hearts of everyone.
Inspiration: because a rose means love and I love my mom and my family.

My inspiration to make this painting is that when I feel inner Peace, I feel that I am not alone. I feel that I am together with everyone all around the world and we are all united in one Hug.

Participants had the opportunity to express themselves through the drawing of a rainbow. The experience of a quality as an access point to becoming non-violent.
The water represents truth. The red means "being" - your soul being there. I never correlated the idea of being there as being warm - even passionate. It is a good state to be in that high state. The fire is meant to be purifying. It is interesting that to experience a quality is to experience my natural nature."
- Connie Ptak

"I didn't know much about where rainbows originate, but I gave it a shot and I liked it. I wrote down that I can create another rainbow like this or a million rainbows at anytime. I gave the quality of being fiery - that is passionate."
- Zulekha Bawa
I was having a lovely chit chat with my 8 year old niece about peace. She was saying how much she likes to just sit quietly sometimes or simply hum a soft tune while playing with her dolls and so we started to create a peace space where she could go when things got chaotic around her. I was touched by the drawing my niece made. We were running errands together and she was very quiet in the back seat and would not allow me to look at what she was drawing. Later that evening she showed it to me and it brought on a wave of love and warmth and joy as it was her imagination of heaven-the gate leading to the heavens in the clouds.

I was walking through the forest and I saw a flower. This reminded me of peace. I thought of a flower and this could represent all 4 aspects of obtaining peace in daily life. A flower posses all these and therefore could be used as a symbol for peace.

This painting was inspired by my characteristic of always being a peacful soul. To me, being a peaceful soul means that I should always give positive and helpful ideas others and never cause sorrow for others.
